How to Plan For Swimming Pool Construction
Building a pool is an exciting time for families and friends, but it can be a big project. It’s important to have a solid plan for the process from start to finish to avoid any delays or additional costs. Here are some helpful tips to help make the construction of your new pool smoother and more enjoyable for everyone involved.
Before construction begins, it’s important to consider what type of swimming pool you would like and where on your property. Many factors influence this decision, including yard size, landscape and access for construction equipment. For example, steep sloping lots and rocky soil can make the pool construction more difficult and add to the overall cost.
Once the site has been approved, excavation will begin. This is a critical step in the process and will take approximately two weeks. Our builders use specialized machinery and techniques to excavate the swimming hole. Our experienced team will ensure the proper depth and grade is achieved for your new swimming pool.
The next phase in the process is steel installation. During this stage, the builders utilize a variety of different tools to bend and form the steel into the shape of your new swimming pool. The steel is also reinforced with rebar, making it very sturdy and long lasting. It is then encapsulated in concrete to prevent the steel from corrosion and to give it its strength. This phase typically takes two days.
Once the concrete has cured, the tile setter will come in and apply your chosen color and design. This usually takes close to a week and can be very relaxing for your family to watch.
In the meantime, you can start thinking about what extra features you want to add to your pool. This could include a water slide, diving board, hot tub and landscaping. These can add up to the overall price and increase the time of construction, so it is best to discuss these options with a contractor at the initial design stages.
Then it’s time for the fun part – filling up your new swimming pool! Adding a pool to your backyard can be an experience that will last a lifetime, so take your time and enjoy the process. During this time, it’s important to remember that breezes can cause rapid water evaporation and you may need to keep adding water throughout the day. To avoid this, we recommend putting up a windbreak or planting thick trees. It’s also a good idea to check that the pool is not located beneath overhead telephone or electrical wires, or directly over buried sewer lines or septic systems. Swimming Pool Construction and renovation projects must comply with Chapter 17 of the NYC Building Codes. This includes the requirement for Special and Progress Inspections.
